UHW

I have more information on the proposed new bus hub within the hospital.  I met with the Director of Capital Estates and facilities who confirmed to me some of the plans for the hospital.  The bus hub is going to be sited at the hospital with the hope of encouraging more people to use public transport and looking for further bus services to access UHW.  There will also be a cycle hub for 200 cycles with locker facilities and showers.

There will be an elevated walkway from the multi-storey car park with lifts for those who cannot use the stairs and this will alleviate the problem of waiting to cross the road to reach the concourse.  Buses are now free from the Park & Ride and are every 20 minutes and which take approximately 6 minutes to reach the site.  The bus hub will not affect parking for the disabled who will be able to park as usual in the designated spaces.

Parking

There is at last some good news with plans for a parking scheme for Heath.  This may not please everyone but it is going to be looked at again, possibly in late autumn, with a view to getting a definite timetable and getting it right for the ward, wherever there are the most problematic areas.  As this hasn’t yet been formulated, I can’t confirm this just yet, in case it doesn’t come off but I am hopeful that there will be areas that will be limited time only e.g 4 or 5 hours short stay for free and those that will be resident parking.  This will mean however that residents could be charged for permits in areas where they have not been in the past.  Also, this will affect roughly 50% of the chosen road/street and will apply Mon to Friday but not at weekends.  I will let you know which areas are being looked at when I have more news.

News in brief

I applied to have cycle stands to be placed near the corner of the Co-op store, Caerphilly Road to help cyclists to park outside this busy store, and am pleased to report that this request has been granted and will be installed as soon as possible.

The University Hospital Board have confirmed to me that the former waste site in Wedal Road is to be for residential use for the hospital.  They also said that they would not be looking to take over the lower Wedal Road site which is owned by the Council.  Maybe, if this is surplus to requirements, this  site could go to auction and maybe we will not be having another council tax hike next year as a result!
