Graham Hinchey – Your local Welsh Labour Councillor for Heath & Birchgrove

Geraint Thomas

I was delighted that local boy and Tour de France winner, Geraint Thomas, had a home coming worthy of his achievements in August. Geraint is a local boy, having attended both Birchgrove Primary School and then Whitchurch High School before making his impact on the world of cycling.

By winning the cycle race Geraint’s performance is said to be one of the greatest individual performances by a Welsh sports person.

Thousands of people turned out to welcome Geraint home and we are already seeing an increase in the number of people who are taking up cycling both as a hobby and for work.

Heath Park is awarded the prestigious Green Flag

It has recently been announced that Heath Park has gained the prestigious national Green Flag award. The “Great Heath” as it was historically known, now joins the 12 Council maintained parks and open spaces in the City that hold the coveted international mark of quality.

As a local Heath Councillor I have campaigned for additional investment in the Park since being re-elected in 2012. I live close to the Park and visit most days, whether it is enjoying it with my grandchildren or walking our trainee Guide Dogs with my wife Anne. Residents will know that I put forward a successful resolution to Cardiff Council in 2012 “to protect and preserve our parks and public open spaces for the enjoyment of all” and it is great to see the investment I talked about in the last issue bearing fruit.

Cardiff Gov App Launches – Council Services Delivered Straight to You

I’m pleased to say that a ‘Cardiff Gov’ App has been launched, offering local residents a new digital experience in connecting with the council.

Residents can get FREE handy notification reminders for their recycling and waste collections straight to their mobile devices, they can now check their Council Tax account on the go and report fly-tipping straight from the scene. More council services will be added in due course.  To download the App just visit the Google Play Store or Apple’s App Store, search for ‘Cardiff Gov’ and install onto your phone.
