Voted one of the best restaurants in Cardiff, independent restaurant I Giardini Di Sorrento celebrate their first anniversary

Inspired by the authentic flavour of the Sorrento peninsula the restaurant has taken off quickly. It has even recently joined Deliveroo, offering the taste of Italy delivered directly to your home.

The restaurant prides itself on the home-made Italian menu, from the pasta to the bread to the desserts and cakes. Chef Gianni Pane offers a truly authentic Italian experience. We were invited to visit the restaurant and try the menu for ourselves.

The walls of the restaurant are decorated with life sized photographs of the Piazza Tasso in Sorrento, making you feel as if you are truly dining in Italy. Massimo, the restaurant owner was extremely welcoming and made us feel right at home.

For starter we chose the Minestrone soup and Calamari, both of which were so delicious. For the main course I went with one of the restaurant specials, ravioli with duck and pear. I was excited to try it as I had never had it before and the flavours sounded interesting. It’s safe to say I was certainly not disappointed! I will definitely be looking out for it again on the specials board.

The other members of the party went with a margarita pizza, the T-Bone steak and seafood pasta – all of which looked and smelt amazing. You could tell all the food was freshly prepared and cooked beautifully.

For dessert we went with the Tiramisu, Profiteroles and Cheesecake. I personally went with the Cheesecake. Each desert comes with homemade dessert sauce – I had to try them all with mine! I think my favourite was the lemon, made with imported Italian Lemons.

Our Italian experience was brought to an end with shots of Limoncello, an Italian lemon liqueur.

I would truly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic Italian dining experience. I wish Massimo and the team the best of luck with their second year and hope there are many more to come!
