Review: Bluestone’s ‘Kingdom of the Elves’

Following our fantastic visit last year, my family and I took our second trip to Bluestone Wales; a five-star resort that offers lodges and cottage breaks in the heart of Pembrokeshire National Park. During the Christmas period, they host a range of festive activities; fun for the whole family. So, a few weeks before Christmas, the family and I packed our bags and headed for a few, festive days at Bluestone Wales.

We stayed in one of their wonderful lodges: The Grassholm. The spacious lodge sleeps up to eight people, which left plenty of room for my whole family: my husband, Ryan, and I, and our two youngest kids. The lodge was full equipped with three bathrooms and an en-suite, a large living and dining room, and a beautiful patio outside. Bluestone offer a range of lodges and rooms to suit a range of family sizes.

During our 4-night stay, we took part in all that Bluestone had to offer. First, we hired a golf buggy, to get from place to place around the resort. We’d highly recommend hiring a bike or buggy during your stay at Bluestone, it made getting from place to place with our two, young children a lot easier!

The highlight of our trip was Santa’s Workshop, full of stories, crafts and festive fun for children and parents to get involved in. Last year, we took a trip to the Kingdom of the Elves, and this year was no different. This year’s voyage took us on a wacky toy train ride on the Elf Express. The kids were dressed as elves, and the parents as mice, and we set off on several, festive adventures. The scheduled stops at The Sugar Plum Land, Mother Ginger’s Kitchen, The Sugar Plum Fairy and The Nutcracker Ball, each had its own set of surprises. We all loved getting involved at each of the stops. I’m not sure who had more fun – the kids, or the adults!

The fun continued when we visited Bluestone’s Water Park, Blue Lagoon. From a wave pool, to slides, to a spa – there is something to suit everyone at the water park. The whole family loved the Lazy River; a relaxing ride outside the Blue Lagoon, which leads to several, secret pools outside.

At the end of our stay, we drove back home after a jam-packed weekend, full of the festivities and luxuries you can find at Bluestone Wales. We can’t wait to do it all over again next Christmas!
